We are going to get right to the muscle of the matter and what composes a killer fat blasting workout. 1. Prepare For WarThis is first and foremost, before we get into reps, exercise, etc. you need to be fully aware and prepared to go into battle against your bulge. Fat loss is one of the toughest, most grueling, battles to face and if your not ready you will not succeed. I think Dan John says it best, "Fat loss is an all out war. Give it 28 days-only 28 days. Attack it with all you have. It's not a lifestyle choice; its a battle. Lose fat and then get back into moderation. There's another one for you: moderation. Revelation says it best:'You are lukewarm and I shall spit you out.' Moderation is for sissies." Decide that you are going to throw everything you have into ridding yourself of fat and once that is done celebrate and thenyou can begin to ease into a healthy lifestyle change. But, until the weight is off, don't worry about strength training,muscle hypertrophy, or muscle endurance, concentrate solely on weight loss. If you try and do too many things at once nothing gets done well.
2. Nutrition, Nutrition, NUTRITION!!! Contrary to popular belief you aren't what you eat, you are worse than what you eat. For example when you eat sugar all day long, white breads, donuts, soda, etc. it goes in as carbohydrates, not all that bad, until it doesn't get used as energy, its proper use, and turns in to pound upon pound of fat. Not only does it turn into fat, but it raises your insulin levels telling your body to hold on to the fat that it already has. Do you see the problem here? Carbohydrates have their place, and I love sweets just as much as the next person, but when we are fighting fat they need to be greatly minimized and only eaten at very opportune times when our bodies are ready for them (i.e. after workouts and immediately upon waking). I know you have heard it a thousand times, but your going to hear it again. VEGETABLES, MEAT, ESSENTIAL FATS, AND FRUITS, need to make up your diet. These are what are bodies need to survive and thrive, the only macro nutrient that the body can completely survive without is....can you guess it? Carbohydrates. Yes there is carbs in fruits and vegetables and that is where you should get your bulk of them,because along with them you are getting infused with loads of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to keep you thriving. Bottom line, change your diet, NOW, not tomorrow NOT Monday, but TODAY,, to Veggies, Meat/Protein, Essential Fats (omegas like in fish), and Fruits. 3. Build Muscle Our resting metabolic rate (RMR) burns calories all day and night long, so the smart thing to do is increase that rate, so we are burning more calories while we are doing are normal daily activities, right? The most efficient way to do this is to increase our muscle mass and force our muscles to work. The greater the muscle mass and use of that muscle the greater the use of calories thus the greater our RMR, which equals more weight lost. So needles to say, but getting out and running every day has its place, but it is a very slow route if you want to lose weight, resistance training is going to give you the best bang for your buck. It makes your muscle grow and work as well as creating a very significant EPOC (Exercise Post Energy Consumption), if done correctly, which translates to yet more calories being burned when you are not physically training. EPOC is the amount of energy our bodies take to regain pre-exercise states, with interval resistance training, and a few other modalities, EPOC shoots through the roof, compared to other types of training. 4. Full Body Training In order to put as much metabolic stress on our bodies as we can in a short period of time we want to focus on full body training for our weight loss programs. We want to work our anaerobic capacity and push our lactic acid threshold in order to create the greatest metabolic demand which in turn will keep our fat burners burning well after we are finished with our training session, many times 24 to 48 hours after. We accomplish this through careful, diligent, programming of full body training utilizes supersets, tri-sets, and interval training. Metabolic resistance training should be the base training protocol for any good weight loss program and can be built from there, depending on time constraints and dedication. 5. Giant of a Man Yelling at YouFiguratively speaking, of course. Is what I am saying is, you must have something to drive you, to push you when you don't want to take another step, to pick you up when you fall and through you back into the fire. Whether this be a real human being or an imaginary figure in your head, you will need them by your side in order to drop that weight. Your body gained that weight and wants to hold onto it, it is quite comfortable and insulated with it, your mind is the only thing that can to fend it off and push your body to do what it doesn't want to. The urge to quit is strong, but you along with your "Giant of a Man" must and can be stronger. So find your motivating force and lets drop some poundage.
